J.Crew Spring Color

IMG_0233.jpg

I am always in awe of how J.Crew combines colors so creatively and perfectly in their lookbooks. I decided to take inspiration from them, and pair a red eyelet skirt with a bubble-gum pink pull-over. I accessorized with a highlighter yellow cross-body bag.

Obsessed: Metallic Shoes

Women-Metallic-Shoes-Trends-2012-3.jpg

Photo c/o MTV style

I am of the opinion that metallics are the new neutral. They look amazing with pastels, brights, neutrals, and black and white… basically everything! So if you are bored with the same nude or black shoes, add some metallics to your shoe collection this spring. I recently got these silver beauties.

(Not so) Mellow Yellow

IMG_0031.JPG

This day went from calm to crazy just like my outfit. You will see why. I started off the day wearing a bright yellow multi-layer blouse under a beige blazer with skinny jeans. I love the way yellow looks on neutrals; it just gives a nice pop of color. I accessorized with my camel Prada Saffiano tote bag and pointed heels.

I happened to bring this cool 70′s inspired printed scarf just to accessorize my bag, and it sure came in handy later that day.

As we were walking to our car, we stumbled upon this amazing van. It looks like it came right out of Woodstock. The license plate even read “Turn On”. This lead to a fun impromptu photo shoot.

Sherbert and Lace

IMG_7255.jpg

Oh how I love pastel and sherbert colors, and I love lace. So it only made sense to put them all together in one outfit for a really feminine look. I paired a mint blouse with a soft peach blazer and a lace skirt. I accessorized with rose gold accented sandals and a pearly pink YSL clutch.

Pink Aztec

IMG_7176.jpg

I have been seeing a lot of Aztec prints in fashion these days, but none quite like this. I love that Derek Lam mixed this print with such vibrant spring colors, and in a 60′s mod style. This dress is part of his 10 Crosby line, and I am a huge fan! I accessorized this dress with a black Hermes cuff, and my favorite sandals of the moment. What do you think? Do you like to dress in 60′s style?

If you love this dress as much as I do, it sold out very quickly on Shopbop, so I put a link to another retailer that still has some in stock.

And thank you(!) so much to everyone that is following me on Bloglovin’ here.

Ombre

IMG_6990.JPG

You may recognize this amazing mural from a previous post. We had just enough sunlight that evening to shoot one more look in front of it. I paired my white skinny jeans this time with a flowing ombre top. I love the colors in this ombre shirt…the deep blue fading gradually into baby blue then white. This top would also look great with jean shorts for a summery look. Do you ombre?

I love how these sunglasses are black on the outside, white on frames, and turquoise in the inside. Find them here.

Instafun

If you have been wondering how some people make those cool collages on Instagram (I know I was), there are tons of apps that help you do it. The one I use is called Diptic, and it has a lot of different layouts you can use, and it allows you to import your pictures from Instagram, Facebook, or your iphone. Here is my latest collage called Neon Love.

What do you think? If you want to follow me on Instagram my username is @chicchef.

Have fun!

Palazzo Pants

IMG_7075.jpg

What can be better than being able to go out in your pajamas? One of this season’s hot trends let’s you do just that. They are called palazzo pants, but really they are just fancy pajama pants. These Zara striped palazzo pants had my name written all over them. Not only do they have an amazing striped print from top to bottom, but since they are black and white, you can pair them with just about any of the bright spring colors. I chose a bright green because I love this color combination.

Art Love

IMG_6963.jpg

A little known fact about me is that I wanted to be an artist before I became a dentist. I loved to draw, especially with charcoal, and I think that is why I love to blog as well. It gives me a means of artistic expression, through fashion. My husband and I found this amazing mural not too far from our home. You can get lost in it as you follow it from one end to the other.

IMG_6979.JPG

As for the look, I wanted to put together a completely springy look with a chambray shirt on white skinny jeans. I gave it a little pop of color with a yellow patent leather skinny belt and topped it off with a white fedora. What do you think?

white 3.1 Phillip Lim is so perfect for spring and summer. It also comes in blue and black, but I think the white is super chic. IMG_6937.jpg

Chili-Lime Shrimp Cups

IMG_6907.JPG
I am a fan of any food that comes in it’s own edible cup. When I figured out that you can make a light crispy cup out of a wonton wrapper, I was determined to make as many things as I could to go inside. You can fill these little guys with just about anything, but I want to share my chili-lime shrimp recipe with you today. These are perfect as a chic appetizer when you really want to impress, and they are so easy to make!

Ingredients: (Makes 12)

  • 12 Jumbo shrimp (Peeled and Deveined)
  • 12 Wonton Wrappers
  • 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Chipotle in Adobo Sauce (you can find this in the International section of the grocery store)
  • 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Chopped Cilantro
  • 2 Limes (1 of them zested)
  • Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, Paprika

Directions:

The first step is to peel and devein your shrimp. If you are a little squeamish, you may want to get shrimp that are already prepared for you.Wash and pat dry, then season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and chili powder. Also add the zest of one lime. Don’t add the juice of the lime, because the acid will start to cook the shrimp while it is marinating. If you are doing this ahead of time, you can let the shrimp marinate for an hour.

IMG_6879.JPG

Next, carefully brush olive oil on both sides of each wonton wrapper, and place it in the muffin pan. You want to make sure your wontons have been in the refrigerator and not frozen or they will stick together and tear.

IMG_6894.JPG

Bake the wonton cups at 350 degrees for about 6-7 minutes or until the edges become golden brown. While they are baking, mix the sour cream and chipotle in adobo sauce in a bowl and set aside. Also, saute your shrimp until they are fully cooked (only takes about 5 minutes). Remove the wonton cups from the oven, and place on spoonful of the chipotle sour cream at the bottom. Then place one shrimp in each cup and garnish with cilantro. Serve with extra lime wedges.

Enjoy!
